JOB SUMMARY:The Recovery Advocate is responsible for the protection, safeguarding, and securing of clients at the facility. Responsible for providing therapeutic assistance and preventing client elopement. Institute appropriate security measures while escorting clients inside and outside the facility.ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
  1. Assists in creating and maintaining a therapeutic environment for substance abuse clients. Maintains adequate security for eating/sleeping problems, suicidal/homicidal attempts or threats, elopements or attempts to elope.  Assists patients in good grooming and personal hygiene.  Monitors clients’ movement and provides a client count as per facility policy.
  2. Accompanies clients to NA/AA meetings in the community, recreational activities, field trips and other outings to ensure safety, provide therapeutic assistance, and help prevent elopement.  Institutes appropriate security measures escorting clients inside and outside facility.
  3. Prepare meals for clients as scheduled.
  4. Follow all health codes pertaining to sanitation and safety, including but not limited to how to properly prepare food to avoid food-borne illnesses, cleanliness of work area and cooking utensils, and personal grooming.
  5. Investigate and complete related reports on all accidents, safety and security situations and communicate emergency situations, including medical emergencies, to the appropriate authorities and staff members.
  6. Performs housekeeping duties such as cleaning offices/kitchen and other duties necessary to maintain a safe and sanitary environment for clients.  Supervises client chores consisting of general cleaning of physical surroundings and furnishings in patient care area.  Maintains a neat and clean employee area.
  7. Participates and assists clinical treatment team members with groups in therapeutic activities.  Always maintains awareness of and documents whereabouts of clients, reporting problems appropriately.  Recognizes and intervenes in disturbed/aggressive behavior as soon as sign of disruptive behavior are recognized.  
  8. Responsible for taking and documenting client vitals
  9. Responsible for Medication observation of all clients. Ensure clients are taking medications as prescribed and document accurately all medicines taken.
  10. Performs a daily p.m. medication count to ensure the security of all medications. In the event a medication is unaccounted for write up report and submit to your immediate supervisor
  11. Participates in educational program (either in-house or outside facility) as assigned, to increase knowledge base and job skills.
  12. Assists with client admissions, including orientation to rules and rights, bed/closet assignments, issuing linens, and inventory of personal items as needed.
  13. Assists with transfer and discharge procedures. Performs any related duties assigned including disinfecting bed, inventory of personal items, and ensuring all property is returned.
  14. Recognizes and intervenes in disturbed/aggressive behavior as soon as sign of disruptive behavior are recognized.
  15. Answers phone and transfers call or takes messages as needed.
  16. Continuously monitor health, security and well-being of clients by ensuring facility is secure and residents are off the floor and in rooms at appropriate times.
  17. Perform head count nightly as per licensing standards, complete reports of nightly rounds, investigate and complete related reports on all safety and security situations and communicate emergency situations, including medical emergencies, to the appropriate authorities and staff members.
  18. Serve meals and ensure standards are met for all food service operations.
  19. Perform light maintenance around the facility to ensure a safe, healthy environment.
  20. Assist with training newly hired technicians to ensure an effective onboarding process.  Assist with ongoing training as assigned.
  21. Maintain strict confidentiality on all client and company matters and refer questionable issues to your supervisor.
  22. Perform additional duties as assigned and consistent with the non-exempt functions as assigned in this job description. 
 COMPETENCIES FOR THE POSITION:Skills, Knowledge and Abilities:
  1. Knowledge of security operations and safety practices.
  2. Knowledge of client schedule to ensure clients are following schedule and are participating.
  3. Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing with staff and residents.
  4. Ability to understand and follow standard operating procedures, to perform duties in a professional manner, to write and investigate required reports; to make independent and good judgment decisions within proper policy and procedures.
  5. Ability to detect problems and report information to appropriate personnel.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS FOR THE POSITION:Education:
  1. High school diploma or equivalent required
 Experience:
  1. One year healthcare technician experience preferred.
  2. Valid Driver’s License required
