The Plant Operator will be responsible for ensuring optimal operating performance, adhering to safety standards, and maintaining environmental compliance within the facility. This role includes daily interactions with SCADA control systems, implementing operational adjustments, executing preventative maintenance, conducting laboratory analyses, and preparing environmental compliance reports—all while fostering a safe and collaborative work environment. The position has an offset schedule (1st week 4-12 hour days/ 2nd week 3-12 hour days).
Working Conditions:
- Offset Schedule: Alternating 4-day (12-hour) and 3-day (12-hour) workweeks.
- Computer Use: Routine operation of computers and electronic control systems for equipment.
- Gas Sampling: Daily use of gas sampling equipment, mobile analyzers, and lab instruments.
- Heavy Machinery: Regular operation of industrial vehicles and machinery.
- Lifting: Occasional lifting/moving of materials up to 60 pounds.
- Tools: Frequent use of power and manual tools.
- Terrain Navigation: Ability to traverse uneven terrain and use equipment ladders.
- Standing: Must be able to stand for extended periods.
- PPE: Mandatory use of personal protective equipment (hard hats, safety glasses, gas monitors, high-visibility vests) for certain tasks.
- Hazardous Materials: Work may involve handling hazardous materials.
- Hours: Position may require extended hours, especially during on-call shifts.
Primary Duties:
- Ensure all personnel comply with safety, environmental, and social regulations.
- Collaborate with the Plant Manager for ongoing improvements in plant operations.
- Monitor and operate the dairy manure anaerobic digester and supporting systems.
- Provide weekly production and operational trend reports to management.
- Maintain a safe, clean, and presentable facility at all times.
- Conduct lab work and record data for process control decisions.
- Coordinate vendor and contractor work and deliveries as needed.
- Manage the budget while ensuring adherence to accounting practices.
- Maintain inventory and proper storage of spare parts and supplies.
Experience/ Minimum Requirements:
- Demonstrates excellent verbal and written communication skills. - Possesses experience and knowledge of mechanical and electrical fundamentals. - Exhibits critical thinking abilities with a strong sense of ownership and pride in work. - Holds a High School Diploma or GED. - Familiar with PLC/SCADA controls. - Proficient in basic computer skills, including Microsoft Outlook, Word, and Excel. - Capable of working cohesively in a highly effective team environment. - Available for 'on call' support and flexible scheduling as needed. - Must maintain a valid driver’s license. - Able to pass a physical exam and aptitude test. - Provides reference checks related to previous employment.
Skills/Abilities
- Experience in operating anaerobic digesters, energy facilities, wastewater treatment plants, agricultural operations, or similar process plants. - Possession of technical training and/or relevant certification in the field.
